The FRS Iberia Morocco-DFDS company will end this Sunday, May 4 at midnight, at its maritime service between the Andalusian port of Tarifa and the city of Tangier. Inaugurated twenty-five years ago, this short but emblematic crossing will have marked the history of exchanges between southern Europe and the Atlantic Maghreb.
“We express our deepest gratitude to travelers, local authorities and all our collaborators for their loyalty and dedication for a quarter of a century”said in a statement the company, an alliance between the Danish group DFDS and the Hispano-Moroccan shipowner Frs.
From its beginnings, the Tarifa – Gangier Ville line has established itself as a predilection passage for millions of passengers, seduced by the brevity of the crossing and the regularity of rotations. The use of the high -speed ship (NGV), of which Frs was the precursor on this route, made it possible to shorten the passage within an hour, reinventing the maritime uses between the two banks of the Strait of Gibraltar.
Despite this judgment, Frs Iberia Morocco / DFDS will continue to exploit its lines between Alg (Algeciras) and Tng-Med (Tangier Med), as well as between alg and CEA (Ceuta), retaining a substantial presence in the waters of the Strait.
“Our attachment to the region remains intact. We will continue to provide maritime service of impeccable quality and remain attentive to developments likely to draw new routes ”added the group management.
Travelers who have reserved crossings beyond May 4 are invited to contact customer service at +34 956 68 18 30 (Spain) or at +212 539 94 26 12 (Morocco), or to consult the official website Frs.es.
This fence marks the end of a singular maritime chapter, woven from collective memory, passing habits and a mutual attachment between the two ports, which contemporary history will have permanently linked by this floating arch.
