Scottie Scheffler rested and ready to defend his title at Hilton Head

(Island of Hilton-Head) Scottie Scheffler was the headliner of the parade, two days after the conclusion of the masters tournament. He honored the Harbor Town checkered jacket, not the green jacket of the National Augusta.

The tradition of the RBC Heritage tournament is to observe the champion in title of the tournament scrolling for about a kilometer to the green of 18^e Hole in Harbor Town, where he must slam a protocol starting stroke in a bay while artillerymen pulled a cannon.

“I had traffic jams. It’s always good to hear the cannon shot, said Scheffler. It was a unique experience. I was simply happy to have managed to touch the ball, rather than kissing myself by missing it. »»

And it was rested for the opening ceremony on Tuesday.

Scheffler is not in the same situation as a year ago, when he had just won the masters tournament. He had returned home to Dallas to celebrate briefly with his loved ones, before flying and heading for South Carolina, for this PGA tournament with a total kitty of US 20 million.

And he signed another victory.

Scheffler lacked precision, at times, this year at the Masters Tournament. He nevertheless resulted in fourth place, and said he was proud to have fought until the end. He was exhausted, of course, but without feeling the adrenaline of victory and everything that accompanies him.

Rather than a big party, a flight to Dallas and another towards the island of Hilton-Head, Scheffler enjoyed a three-hour peaceful trip by car as well as the calm that this tournament offers.

Even if the total kitty is 20 million, this tournament allowed it to blow a little.

For his part, the champion of the masters tournament, Rory McILroy, shines by his absence. He had already mentioned earlier this year that Harbor Town did not appear among his favorite stops – the route rewards the position on the starting blow and has small greens, thus affecting those who bet on power -, and he chose not to register before the deadline to do it last Friday.

It is however a course where Scheffler has a lot of fun.

“It was” cool “to see Rory complement the work, admitted Scheffler. From my point of view, it seemed to be a real relief. Rory has accomplished everything in golf, and that’s all that was missing. The guy won the Fedex Cup, the players’ championship, the four major tournaments. The only thing he misses and he could covet is the gold medal at the Olympic Games.
