A few weeks after Jay Monahan announced new measures to combat the slow game and in particular the publication of the slowest list of players, the Norwegian Viktor Hovland put himself in the first round of the RBC Heritage.
From this week and for one month the use of distance measurement devices by players and cadets was authorized.
This initiative proposed by the players of the working group on the PGA Tour play speed – Sam Burns, Adam Schenk et Jhonattan Vegas – will then be subject to an analysis of the data to estimate if it is an effective solution to accelerate the game. A final implementation could be decided if the results are positive.
-Asked about the subject upstream of this first “test” tournament, the players said that if this measure saved time it would be at the margins. The main problem of slow game remains the time taken by players to read putts and especially since the AIM point technique spreads.

Hovland soon on the “wall of shame”?

The winner of the Fedex Cup 2023 notably spent almost 30 seconds walking along his putt line to feel the slopes with his feet. He then resumed twice to align his ball.
