It was around 10:15 pm this Tuesday, April 29, that the drama was discovered in a hamlet three kilometers from the town of Trémolat, a small village located on the border of the Bergerac and the Périgord Noir. Alerted by a friend of the victim, the emergency services found the sixties, seriously injured, near her car parked in front of her house. Despite the first aid gestures provided by the man who had frequented her for a few weeks, the woman died several blows inflicted by a sharp object.

The Bergerac prosecutor’s office, led by the prosecutor Sylvie Martins-Guedes, said that injuries, located in particular at the level of the breast, the groin, the arm and the leg, testified to “particular violence” and “demonstrated the will to kill”. An investigation into voluntary homicide was immediately opened. At this stage, all the tracks remain envisaged, specifies the prosecutor in a press release.
“It’s horrible”
Karen Carter, from Great Britain, had lived for over ten years in the commune where she was very socially and culturally active. Married and mother of four children living abroad, she shared her time between Trémolat and South Africa where she had long lived. In the Périgourdin village, she operated a cottage and actively participated in the local associative café.
This endearing personality was also a member of the “Queen of football”, a female team made up of women over 50, recently represented the Dordogne during a world “football gnages” in South Africa. The shock is immense within the team and throughout the town. “Everyone is in shock, it’s horrible. We loved it,” his teammates told the local branch of France Bleu. The associative coffee has also canceled the events scheduled for the days following the tragedy, a tangible sign of the trauma felt by the entire local community.

The inhabitants of the village express their stupor and their sadness in the face of this brutal murder, unprecedented in their peaceful daily life. “Even in our small villages, anything can happen,” deplores one of them, quoted by Southwest. Bergerac’s research brigade and the Agen research section is currently continuing their investigations to identify the authors (s) of this crime which deeply upsets Périgord.
