The city of Paris has announced that a inspection of all municipal pools would be carried out, after dozens of assaults, including acts of voyeurism as recently denounced by a journalist in the 19th.

A plan that concerns all districts. While journalist Laurène Daycard recently alerted to her Instagram account about her assault in the changing rooms in the Georges Hermant (19) municipal swimming pool, a dozen also testified to having been filmed and observed without their knowledge in these places.

The City of Paris quickly announced the deployment of a “complete audit in all municipal swimming pools to structural weaknesses and strengthen prevention”, which will decline, in fact, by verifications each evening in order to detect “developments or holes that can promote voyeurism acts”.

With 40 municipal swimming pools scattered throughout the capital, the town hall also intends to strengthen the training of surveillance agents, as well as the reception of victims.

Towards non -mixed locker rooms?

Among the levers of actions against these practices “which should not be considered as isolated cases but as a phenomenon on a national scale against which it is urgent to act”, according to the Town Hall, a display against gender -based and sexual violence including voyeurism will soon be deployed on all municipal pools.

A study linked to the development of spaces, which could also possibly lead to the end of diversity in the locker room, will be launched.

“A working group will be formed in the coming days, associating managers of swimming pools, external managers, and victims associations to collectively find developments and solutions to be implemented in the long term in aquatic equipment”, specifies the city of Paris, which wanted to support women who have issued reports.

“We will remain mobilized to ensure that the Parisian swimming pools remain safe places, accessible to all, where no woman must give up going for fear of being attacked,” concluded the municipality.
