While we await the formalization of the replacement of Jack Doohan by Franco Colapinto in the coming hours, it is another dramatic stroke that came from Alpine F1 this evening! Oliver Oakes, the team’s main team, resigned from his post with immediate effect!
“Alpine F1 announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from her position as team director” Can we read in the press release sent this evening by the team. “The team accepted their resignation with immediate effect.”
And Alpine to confirm that Flavio Briatore, banished from sport in 2009 for cheating, becomes the all-powerful in the Enstone team: “From today, Flavio Briatore will remain executive advisor and will also assume the functions previously exercised by Oliver Oakes.”
“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since his arrival last summer and for his contribution to obtaining sixth place in the 2024 manufacturers’ championship. The team will not make any other comments.”
Briatore therefore becomes the fifth main team of Alpine in four years! If there was still evidence of instability and tensions that reign within the team, the departure of Oakes, obviously uncomfortable this weekend against questions on Doohan, continues to sow trouble on the management of the team, and in particular since the return of Briatore.
