Pirelli praised McLaren F1’s performance in Miami, after the Woking team scored 58 points in two days, as much as possible during a Sprint weekend. The pneumatic manufacturer praised the longevity of certain relays, out of the 57 laps of the race.
Two pilots completed the longest relays in hard tires, namely Nico Hülkenberg and Lance Stroll. On the side of the medium tires, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc share the longevity record with 29 loops, and the director of Pirelli F1, Mario Isola, gives the conclusions of the weekend for the manufacturer.
“The race was very simple with regard to tires. The few data collected this weekend have clearly shown that, despite the use of three compounds a little more tender than last year in order to multiply strategic choices, the race would probably be played on a single stop, and that’s what happened” note the Italian.
“The degradation was very limited on the C3 and C4, and even less than expected on this last eraser. This explains why the pilots who left in mediums were able to extend their first relay until mid-race, or even further, especially since the virtual safety car facilitated the passage of leaders to hard compounds.”
Despite a reduced operating window in terms of heat, the lack of degradation was positive for the show: “The low degradation of the tires also contributed to the many battles, especially at the start of the race, when the pilots were able to attack thoroughly.”
“The scenario was different from that observed in Suzuka, for example, a month ago. The characteristics of the track are very different, with possibilities of overcoming, and that also demonstrates how difficult it is to do everything to offer the grandiose spectacle that fans deserve.”
