Pierre Gasly started stands after a disappointing qualification, and he finished 13th in the Miami Grand Prix. The Alpine F1 driver has won positions thanks to abandonment, but it deplores a constant lack of performance throughout the weekend in Miami.
Note that he was under investigation for not having slowed down enough under the yellow flag, but the video showed that the yellow flag has been agitated on a yellow background, from a single post of commissioner. In addition, neither the team nor the pilot received a visual or audio warning, and Gasly could not see the car stopped on track from his cockpit either. So he had a simple warning.
“It was a difficult weekend, we did not show speed at any time. We saw things that did not work on the car after qualification, we made changes for today, it was a little better, but we lacked speed in qualifiers” regret Gasly.
“We have a lot to analyze after this weekend and I’m happy to get out with a marked point during the sprint yesterday, because it did not seem that we were going to fight so high. So we take what we can and we need answers before Imola.”
French deplores progress among the competitors of his team: “Williams made a big step forward, but it’s not just in front of them. We were back in front of all the other teams this weekend, and I hope it is due to this circuit and asphalt, but we need answers.”
Jack Doohan had qualified in front of his teammate but harnessed Liam Lawson at the first turn, which caused his abandonment. The Australian could be replaced soon and that does not help his situation: “The weekend ended with difficulty on my side of the garage.”
“We left at the heart of the peloton, which is always a danger when approaching the first turns. We were trapped at the entrance to the first turn and we touched ourselves with [Liam] Lawson in the absence of space. “
“The damage was too important to go to the stand safely and we had to abandon. We had however shown promising signs during the sprint, in particular by managing the weather conditions.”
“I felt comfortable in the car throughout the weekend. We are now focusing on the next races. We have a week to recharge the batteries and prepare for the next climbed shopping that will launch the European season.”
