After the Bahrain Grand Prix, the record of Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull is already better than that of his predecessor Liam Lawson. If the Bahraini weekend of Max Verstappen is dull compared to his performances on the route of Suzuka (winner), that of his Japanese teammate is more than positive, since he achieved his first qualification in the Top 10 and scored his first points for the Austrian team.
« I am happy for the first pointssaid the native of Sagamihara after his ninth place. However, I have the feeling that I could have done better, especially on this race, my rhythm was good. The team could also have done the best job, especially on Pit-Stops. Indeed, just like his Dutch teammate, Yuki Tsunoda was the victim of the awkwardness of his stable which, an event sufficiently unusual to be noted, passed through his Sunday by missing several stops at the stands because of, among other things, a defective fire, thus wasting precious seconds.
A first since Las Vegas 2024
The first little feat of the new Red Bull driver occurred on Saturday. By reaching an unexpected Q3 in view of his pace during free test sessions, he is the first in 2025 to register the second Milton Keynes single -seater within the Top 10 in qualifying. However, his real performance followed the next day: by opening his point counter at Red Bull, Yuki Tsunoda also broke a black series for the second bucket of the Austrian team. This one was out of the points since the Grand Prix of Las Vegas 2024, on November 23, that is to say a lifting of six races. At that time, the Mexican pilot Sergio Pérez was driving. He had finished 10th, insufficient performance to convince his team to keep it.
« I am still in the learning phasea Expliqué Yuki Tsunoda. I am happy with my performances and I want to continue on this momentum. However, I do not hurry, more difficult races will arrive and will be for me important moments. Let’s see how I’m going to manage, but there are always a lot of challenges in front of me. »
Djeddah (Saudi Arabia), the next meeting of the season is certainly one of the challenges mentioned by Tsunoda. On the very narrow drawing of the cornice, the track limits are walls and the errors are fatal. Thus, the Japanese will not have joker and, if he wants to perform, will quickly find the winning setting of his car.
