Four days after the accident that sent him to the hospital, Aprilia said that the clinical condition of Jorge Martín improves “Slowly but gradually”. If it is too early to specify the recovery deadlines to which he will have to fold, the manufacturer nevertheless specifies that the world champion will miss the next Grand Prix, next week in Jerez, where he will be replaced by Lorenzo Savadori.
Martín is still under observation at the Hamad General Hospital in Doha, where he was admitted for a hemopneumothorax, the presence of air and blood in the chest cavity, a consequence of a fall in which the motorcycle of Fabio di Giannantonio could not avoid it. Spanish also suffers from multiple rib fractures, which only complicate his daily life due to the pain they cause and limitations imposed on his movements.
Yesterday, Jorge Martín showed on his social networks that he was able to take his first steps and that he managed to sit. However, these are only first stages of a long journey. The last bulletin transmitted by Aprilia indicates that thoracic drainage remains in place for the moment, while the lung has a stable and safe condition.
Then, in a second step, the pilot can be repatriated to Europe in order to continue the necessary care. The team specifies that they will understand “Analgesic therapies, respiratory physiotherapy and constant cardiovascular monitoring”.
The press release sent by APRILIA cites a message from Jorge Martín: “Thank you with all my heart to all those who support me. The last days have been difficult, but I am starting to move a little more and to feel better, even if the pain remains very strong. I want to thank Aprilia, my fans and all those who help me. I continue to fight to be one of the strongest of all time.”
A satisfactory evolution of his injuries
In addition to Doha’s doctors, Jorge Martin is carefully followed by Dr ángel Charter, MotoGP medical director, and by Franco Perona, director of Lifenet Healthcare, the medical team with which Aprilia is associated. “Jorge Martín benefits from therapies to relieve pain due to fractured and drainage ribs, which has a remarkably positive effect on the re -expansion of the lungs after pneumothorax”, specifies the latter.
“Jorge Martín is still in intensive care at Hamad Hospital. His injuries evolve satisfactorily. The thoracic drainage for hemopneumothorax evolves favorably. The pain is under control, despite the fractures of the ribs. For the moment, pulmonary drainage must remain in place, until the 90% resorption of hemopneumothorax”, Indicates Dr ángel Charter.
“We will then have to wait a few days before he can be transferred by medical plane to our hospital. His mood is good, and we have to give him time until the clinical process is resolved so that he can be transferred.”
