The new pope Leo XIV won the election of the conclave because of his proximity to the people, as well as his balance between traditionalism and modernism, according to Father Martin Tremblay.

The new pope embodies “a certain proximity to people, explained the priest of Saint-Jérôme, in an interview on the show The assessmentTHURSDAY. It is a man who was missionary, a man who traveled a lot. ”
The ability to continue teaching the Church and good general health are two other factors that have played in favor of the 69-year-old man who comes from Chicago, in the United States.
Robert Francis Prevost is the first American pope in history.
“And then, in priority, I could have appointed, but that he was a man of God, a man of prayer,” raised Father Tremblay.
Although the priest cannot guess the reasoning of the conclave which led to the election of the new head of state of the Vatican, the name chosen indicates a wave of modernism, according to him.
“Pope Leo XIII, he is the one called the Pope of Modernity, the one who is less demanding, less severe for his time than his predecessors,” said Father Tremblay.
“It is also a pope who wrote an encyclical for the people and to help the whole social cause,” he added.
Father Tremblay judges, after all, that the conclave concluded that this pope “is not too reforming, nor too traditionalist”, which corresponds to the needs of the Catholic Church at present.
