We really live a fairly special generation of consoles. Normally, the more time passes in the life of a console, the more price it drops, slowly leaving its place to a new generation. But in recent years, it is quite the opposite that has happened. This time, it is Xbox’s turn to formalize an increase in the prices of its Xbox Series consoles (released on November 10, 2020) and a whole bunch of accessories. And that concerns everyone, from France to the United States, via Japan, a country where the tendency of Xbox consoles will not really change whatever happens.
Obviously, we can all understand it, especially since Microsoft is in a very bad pass. Remember, the Microsoft Gaming branch generated turnover of only $ 5.7 billion in the 3rd tax quarter, compared to 5.4 billion last year. Yes, it’s an increase, but it is very small. And it is found in the middle of the $ 70.1 billion for all Microsoft entities, on this same period of time. Times are hard, and it is therefore necessary to increase prices and even more bleeding the rest of potential customers.
And this is not the first increase. Remember in June 2023, Xbox had already spent its Xbox Series X from € 499.99 to € 549.99.

- Xbox wireless controller – Limited edition – € 89.99
- Xbox Elite Série 2 (Core) wireless controller – 149.99 €
- Xbox Elite series 2 (complete) wireless controller – 199.99 €
I still remember buying my Xbox Series X in June 2021 for € 499. It was almost a good time!
By the way, it is not better in the United States: the Xbox Series S goes from $ 299.99 to $ 379.99, the Xbox Series X goes from $ 449.99 to $ 549.99, and the famous Xbox Series X 2TO Galaxy Special Edition goes from $ 599.99 to $ 729.99 because why not apply an increase of 22%. There is no need to say, the customs taxes imposed by the Trump administration are really a very nice idea. No ?
It should also be noted that the First Party games will climb a price too, going directly to $ 79.99 in the USA by the end of the year, which will translate here by a simple € 79.99, see even a small € 89.99 for games in standard version and obviously a “more than 100 balls” when a DLC and three shit are in the pack. Moreover, this is already the case with an Indiana Jones and the old circle which is € 79.99 on the Xbox blind, and € 109.99 in its premium digital edition.
So yes, we suspect that this is also a slightly bizarre strategy to force its customers to pass on the Xbox Gamepass, but in this case, we will have to continue to provide them in video games, and it is obvious that at one point, Microsoft is still going adjust Increase the price of its subscription, since development is increasing. But that was not enough, so last month, Sony further increased prices, passing PS5 Digital Edition to € 499.99, the standard PS5 at € 549.99 and the PS5 Pro at € 799.99.
