“Horror has reached its peak with the Massacre du Dimanche des Palmeaux,” said Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, estimated this Monday that “the horror reached its peak with the Massacre of the Sunday branches”, in the aftermath of a Russian bombardment which left at least 34 dead in the city of Soumy, in the northeast of Ukraine, in the middle of the diplomatic negotiations for a truce.

A unanimous reaction. Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, like the United States, Europeans and the United Nations, firmly condemned the Russian bombing on Sunday which left at least 34 people dead in the city of Soumy, in northeast of Ukraine.

“This weekend, the horror in Ukraine reached its peak with the Massacre of the Sunday of the Palm. In Soumy in the northeast of the country, the innocent civilian populations were targeted twice by the missiles of Vladimir Putin, “the minister from Luxembourg, on the occasion of the Council of Foreign Affairs.

“This is the demonstration, if one still had one, the contempt of Vladimir Putin for civilian populations and for the law of war. I remind you that Vladimir Putin is still under an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for War Crimes. This is also the demonstration of his true intentions, ”added Jean-Noël Barrot.

New sanctions for ?

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has thus judged that “obviously”, Russian President Vladimir Putin had “no intention of walking” to a cease-fire, despite clear requests from kyiv, enjoined by Donald Trump who made numerous concessions to the Kremlin in recent weeks.

“It must therefore be forced, and that is why I call the European Union to take the heaviest sanctions against Russia to suffocate its economy and prevent it from fueling its war effort,” said Jean-Noël Barrot.

“I believe that the United States which has invested a lot to reach a ceasefire-and Donald Trump himself has devoted a lot of time and energy-can also, by sanctions that are ready, forced, forcing Vladimir Putin to sit at the negotiating table,” he concluded.
