A Finnish fighter plane F/A-18 HORNET crashed on Wednesday near Rovaniemi airport in northern Finland, and the pilot was able to eject and be rescued, said the Finnish Air Force on X.

Thick smoke rises from the area and several rescue machines have been sent on the spot, reports the Finnish public radio television Yle on its website.
The accident occurred around 10:50 am, and the emergency services of the region were alerted shortly after a “Major air accident”.
