The International cycling Union (UCI) and the local organizing committee of the event today unveiled in Sallanches (France) the contours of the second edition of the UCI cycling world championships, which will take place in the department of Haute-Savoie, France, from August 24 to September 5, 2027.
The event will bring together 20 UCI world championships on 12 sites, and some 10,000 athletes (elite and amateurs) representing an expected number of nations greater than 130 will compete for 13 days during the 281 UCI world titles at stake. Some 2 million people should follow competitions on site, and the cumulative TV audience should reach a billion viewers. More than 700 media representatives will be accredited for an event which can count on the commitment of around 4,000 volunteers.
By comparison, the first edition of the UCI cycling world championships, organized in 2023 in Glasgow and through Scotland (United Kingdom), had brought together 13 UCI world championships organized on nine sites, and gathered 7,000 athletes (elite and amateurs) of 131 nations. A total of 220 rainbow jerseys had been awarded on this occasion, and competitions had been followed on site by more than a million spectators and broadcast worldwide.

The dates of the various tests have not yet been set. Junior track competitions should however take place before the official date of the start of the event.
The UCI World Cycling World Championships, Gravel, Mountain Bike Enduro, Pump Track and Junior Track will appear as part of the UCI cycling world championships, while two unpublished specialties will live the first UCI Worlds in their history: cycling Speedway in theaters and the Polo Vélo.
The entire department of Haute-Savoie will therefore be of the party, and the competitions will take place in breathtaking sets, with landscapes of exceptional diversity in which we will find both emblematic lakes as mythical peaks, like the majestic Mont-Blanc, higher summit in Europe (4’806 m at altitude).
The UCI 2027 UCI 2027 online online online cycling championship was also unveiled. The latter’s departure and arrival line will be in Sallanches, and the main difficulty of the 13.3 km circuit (for 285 m in elevation) will be the Côte de Domancy (2.5 km for 9.4 % average slope, with a maximum slope of 16 %). Sallanches had already been the Théâtre des Éditions 1964 et 1980 of the UCI World Road Championships, and it was in the Côte de Domancy that the French runner Bernard Hinault had taken off to get his only title of UCI world champion on the road (online race) in the elite men’s category. The runners of all categories will borrow the same circuit, only the number of laps to be varied. This concept marks a return to tradition and should promote an influx of record spectators on the event.

The President of UCI David Lappartient said, “These UCI Cuminée Cycling World Championships were part of my vision when I was elected president of the UCI in 2017. This vision became reality in 2023 in Glasgow and through Scotland, and we are now based on what we have created in Scotland, in an even wider range of cycling specialties. I am delighted that this edition takes place in Haute-Savoie, a recognized land of UCI events in several disciplines. Cycling will be celebrated there in all its splendor ”.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the World Cycling Championships UCI 2027 and the French Cycling Federation Michel Callot said: “For our French team, it is an extraordinary opportunity to highlight yourself in all disciplines on the program and therefore to be able to illustrate the success of French cycling which has the distinction of being very eclectic. We hope that this highlighting through this very big event in France will make many young people want to practice cycling in competition ”.
