On May 10, Plumelec became the beating heart of Breton cycling. And it starts at dawn. At 8:30 am, the first wheels whistle the fresh morning air. These are those of the 176 cyclists of the women’s racing at the Morbihan Grand Prix. And not just any.
At the start, we find Silvia Persico and Eleonora Gasparrini, the two victorious Italians last year. They roll for UAE, the female version of the Pogacar stable. Another headliner: the French victory Berteau, 2023 national champion. Heavy, solid.
Because here, legend is built in a coast. The Coast of Cadoudal. 1.8 km at 6 % average, 113 meters of elevation: a Breton wall, without cobblestones in the heart of the great moments of bicycle in Brittany.
Cadoudal has already shaken the runners of the Tour de France, and this year the coast will be the starting point for a stage of the female Tour.
The legendary final of the Grand Prix will be in the Plumelec circuit. On the program: crossing campaigns and running by approaching houses. The big battles are done in the circuit. And this is where spectators will have to be.
The heart of the village will bubble at 10 a.m. Giant screen, live broadcasts on France 3 Brittany and on our social networks, food-trucks in the “career”, pancakes, sausage pancakes, FDJ entertainment, bicycle repair stands: everything is ready for a day at the bottom of the pedal.
The public is expected in number, from 10 a.m., for the presentation of men on the podium planned just before the arrival of the runners around 11 a.m. Everything is done for a boiling atmosphere on the finish line.
-Never has the Morbihan Grand Prix attracted such a gratin of runners. 18 teams at the start, a record on the organization side, including eight world Tour training, the top of the world top. And a casting that slaps.
- Biniam Girmay, best sprinter in the Tour de France 2024
- Alex Aranburu, Champion d’Espagne
- Alberto Bettiol, Italian champion, winner of the Tour of Flanders
- Paul Sexas, 17, a tricolor nugget already in the top 5 of the Alps Tour
- Matej Mohoric, the puncher who tamed Milan-San Remo
- And perhaps, icing on the handlebars, Benoît Cosnefroy, double winner here
We never had such a tray!
Yannick Guegen, director of the Morbihan Grand Prix
“We never had such a plateau. The Movistar, Bahrain, Astana, everyone is there!” Rejoices Yannick Gueguen, the director of the event.
The secret of this dream cast? An alignment of stars called “Breton block”: four races in four days (Boucles de l’Alne, Tour du Finistère, GP du Morbihan, Tro Bro Léon). A unique opportunity for teams to settle, turn, and align their best.
“Without these four days, the Movistar or Bahrain would never have come. There, they are all there. For us, it is huge.”
For men and women, the verdict will go to the Cadoudal coast, the scene of arrival after a long tour in the countryside.
The profile of the route leaves no doubt: here, the pure sprinters are asked to sit. Only a puncher can win. An attacker. A runner with panache.
