Nicole Kidman will be given the 10th women in Motion prize, which distinguishes personalities who “change the place of women in cinema and in society”, during the 78th Cannes Festival in May, the organizers announced on Monday.
“This is the first time that Nicole Kidman has returned to the Cannes Film Festival since the birthday prize that had been given to her during the 70th edition in 2017,” said the Luxury Kering group, at the origin of this award, and the festival.
“Role after role and with the nuances, the forces and cracks specific to each character, (Nicole Kidman) embodied women who free themselves from the shackles,” praised the general delegate of the demonstration, Thierry Frémaux, in a press release.
The organizers chose for this tenth edition one of the most famous faces in Hollywood: the 57 -year -old actress and producer has not left the screens since the 90s, chaining the significant roles in “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999) or “Moulin Rouge”, which had opened the festival in 2001.
Oscar winning for her interpretation of Virginia Woolf in “The Hours”, she was still awarded last September, at the Venice Mostra, for her role in “Babygirl”, a new generation erotic thriller where she overturned her glamorous image.
His return promises to panic the red carpet in Cannes, where the stars are again expected in number from May 13 to 24. Among them, Tom Cruise, ex-husband of Nicole Kidman, who came to present the last “Mission: Impossible”, Robert de Niro for a palm of gold of honor, the actors Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, Benicio Del Toro or Pedro Pascal, the actresses Emma Stone, Scarlett Johasson or Jennifer Lawrence.
But also Mylène Farmer, who lends her voice to a film and promised to come and deliver an “exceptional performance” during the opening ceremony.
