Marie-Ève Girard says her mother was hospitalized last December for a persistent cough. However, medical examinations have revealed that it has lung cancer, grade four.
“My mother has been suffering from multiple sclerosis since 1996 and since January, her legs no longer work. Doctors believe that it is perhaps because of the metastases on her vertebrae, explains Ms. Girard. She lived in an adapted apartment and used her walker, but now it is no longer possible. ”
The 62 -year -old lady is therefore confined to the hospital in Chicoutimi where she follows immunotherapy treatments, which will allow her to extend her life from 9 to 12 months.
Find him a living environment
In February, a request was made to the accommodation access mechanism so that it moves to a CHSLD or in the house of the elders and alternative. At least that’s what the patient and her family believed.
“Two weeks ago, his doctor asked questions because normally, people who make such a request have a place in the following two weeks. But this is not the case for my mother. It was then that we learned that they made a request only for the alternative house in Chicoutimi-Nord. But the waiting list is several months. She doesn’t have this time in front of her, ”pleads Marie-Ève Girard.
“She just wants a place to live. And my brother and I, with her grandchildren, we want to enjoy the last moments we have with her. I have a lot of frustration now. A feeling of injustice too. The hospital is not a living environment. ”

Ms. Girard believes that her mother was not put on the waiting list of the CHSLDs because of her age. The lady is 62 years old. “But that doesn’t bother her. Her doctor, the liaison nurse and the social worker all say that she should not stay in the hospital. Its place is in a CHSLD. The whole medical team says it, ”she drops.
Since January, Sylvie Bluteau has changed a room eight times. “The hospital is not a place to live. It is constantly disturbed, with noise, light and the neighborhood neighbor. We would like to take her out a little with her motorized chair. But to go where? There is not even grassy terrain. She eats less. She is not doing well, ”underlines her daughter with emotion. This advocacy to a journalist is his last option.

She took the time to learn if a private resource could welcome him, but it is impossible. And a palliative care house is not suitable because the patient should then stop all her treatments.
Before we talk to us, Marie-Ève Girard challenged the complaint commissioner. “But then again, it’s at least 45 days for treatment. We don’t have this time. ” She also called to the office of her deputy, Andrée Laforest.
According to the performance dashboard of the health network, 89 people are currently on the waiting list to obtain a place in CHSLD in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.
