Will the Bank of Canada still announce a drop in the key rate, which influences interest rates in the country? Or will it rather choose to let it unchanged at 2.75 %? If economists generally get along in their forecasts for the procedure to follow that the Central Bank will favor, they are this time very divided.
Difficult to guess what the Bank of Canada will announce a little before the blows of 10 a.m. this morning. The governor of the institution will speak during a press conference to explain the chosen choice.
Two scenarios are now emerging: that of a drop of 0.25 percentage points, or that of a break. If the Bank of Canada decides to lower the key rate to 2.5 %, it would be the eighth consecutive decline.
Desjardins economists are rather expecting the key rate. They believe that the Central Bank “will retain its ammunition in anticipation of the commercial imbroglio which promises to be with the United States”.
Other details will follow.
