Quebec | April 30, 2025-The bridge located on avenue Jacques-Bédard, above the Saint-Charles river, in the Lac-Saint-Charles sector, has been closed to car traffic since this morning, around 10 a.m.
The Quebec Ministry of Transport (MTQ), owner of the infrastructure, proceeded to this preventive closure due to the exceptionally high level of the Lac-Saint-Charles river.
The water has climbed to the point that it now enters direct contact with the concrete structure of the bridge. Patrouters from the MTQ as well as police from the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) are on site to ensure the safety of the premises and direct traffic.
Citizens of the sector must make a detour by rue Delage, located further north. For the time being, no major intervention is planned, and the duration of the closure remains unknown.
This situation follows the violent thunderstorms that swept part of Quebec last night. Significant precipitation has contributed to quickly climbing the level of rivers, especially that of the Saint-Charles river.
