Thus it is prohibited, from this date, to hold, use, deposit or abandon cartridges of nitrogen oxide gas in public space. This prohibition is effective since the date of publication of the decree until December 31, 2025, within two perimeters of the city (see box).
Nitrogen oxide, commonly used in cooking, especially to make whipped cream, is regularly diverted for its euphoric recreational effects. Today it is the third psychoactive product most consumed by young people at the national level. A practice that extends and which the city of Grenoble can identify thanks to the multiplication of “proto” cartridges regularly abandoned in public space.

The use of this gas, accessible and inexpensive, is however extremely dangerous for health, alerted the health authorities. According to the government site Drugs Info Services, its inhalation can thus cause neurological or cardiac disorders and considerably alter vigilance and reflexes.
