The European Union will not be able to compensate for the inevitable losses suffered by the economy of Armenia in the event of its withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EUE). Declaration by Mikaïl Aghasandyan -A Armenian of Russia -, director of the first department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the CEI countries, in an interview with Ria Novosti.
Mikhail Aghasandyan added that the Russian party, during contacts with Armenian partners, explains the impossibility of simultaneous membership in the EU and the EU by the incompatibility of standards, while Yerevan understands both the advantages of participation in the EU and the consequences in the event of withdrawal.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk declared a few weeks ago that in the event of a release of the EUE, Armenia could be confronted with a strong deterioration of its economic situation.
Russian officials stressed that participation in the EUE provides significant trade and financial benefits in Yerevan.
Armenian authorities have not yet announced specific measures or decision to withdraw the organization.
