It is the day of mourning today to honor the memory of people injured or died following an accident at work or an occupational disease in the Laurentians, and to the national.
According to the annual report of the Committee on Standards, Equity, Health and Occupational Safety (CNESST) in 2024, more than 96,700 people underwent an accident at work, including 7,970 in the Laurentians, and more than 10,400 contracted a occupational disease, including 988 people in the region.
In total in the Laurentides, there are 23 deaths, including 8 following an accident at work and 15 in connection with an occupational disease.
If there has been an increase in deaths at the national level, the number of professional lesions identified is down by more than 6 % compared to 2023.
The CNESST takes advantage of this day of mourning to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable prevention by recalling that no workplace is without risk.
