The Center-Val de Loire challenged François Bayrou to be recognized as “health experiment”.
The objective is to “intensify your action” in the face of the lack of treating doctors.
The region has the lowest density of general practitioners in France.
Region president François Bonneau (PS) said on Monday that he had sent a letter to Prime Minister François Bayrou for “Recognition as health experimentation territory”faced with the lack of general practitioners. “We want the implementation of a large -scale experimentation system, innovation and accelerated engagement to intensify our action”he explained at a press conference.
Several concrete proposals
According to their data, Center-Val de Loire is the last metropolitan region in terms of medical density of general practitioners (101.8 against 125.2 on average nationally). Almost 25% of residents in the region do not have a doctor, according to François Bonneau, who nevertheless said that “The number of doctors stopped decreasing in 2024 for the first time in years”.
The demand for recognition as “experimental territory” is accompanied by concrete proposals. Among them, an “significant” increase in the number of medical interns, a higher reception of students trained abroad or the opening of the first year of medicine in all the prefectures from the start of the 2026 school year. These requests must complete measures already undertaken, such as the opening of the Faculty of Medicine in Orleans in 2022, the establishment of 120 multidisciplinary health homes and 20 health centers, or the opening of six health centers Established by the Collective Doctors Solidaires.
