General de Gaulle who was not frankly communist in the soul carried out some nationalizations.
It all depends on why. It all depends on how. It all depends on what purpose, with what strategy.
Nationalization, such as privatization, is only a tool available to the State.
My personal conviction is that it is important to have a strong state in its sovereign tasks starting with security.
Safety must be understood in an extensive sense.
Economic security, and our sovereignty is essential. In this sense nationalization can be useful.
But to do what?
The same people howl to ask for the nationalization of ArcelorMittal vomit on Trump’s protectionist policy.
It’s stupid and incoherent.
Nationalizing to leave this business in the same environment where it is no longer competitive has no economic sense.
Clearly, nationalizing can only be considered if it is accompanied by protectionism around the steel sector.
