ANear the RTCM standard promoting energy efficiency in the construction sector, it is the turn of the cold sector to get there.
As a result, during this workshop, professionals in the cold sector, including importers, distributors and manufacturers of household equipment (refrigerators and air conditioners) were made aware of the implementation of these new regulations.
Their objective is to contribute to the reduction of 20% of national energy consumption, estimated at nearly 122 billion dirhams in 2022, as well as greenhouse gas emissions.
Putting a panorama of the achievements accomplished in terms of energy efficiency since the adoption of law 47-09 in Morocco, Ayoub Abourhim, an executive within the Ministry of Energy Transition, said that “these workshops make it possible to strengthen dialogue between public institutions and private actors, while promoting good practices in terms of energy efficiency.
The building sector, and in particular uses related to cold, represent a significant part of national energy consumption. These measures are essential to achieve our climatic objectives, “he said.
The AMEE experts explained in the details every aspect of these standards and the mode of application of these, specifying that they become gradually compulsory.
“Energy labeling has become compulsory six months after the publication of the decrees, on March 12, 2025. Traders must now affix these labels on the products exposed to sale.
The performance thresholds will become binding a year later, in September 2025, including for imports. And this, to give everyone the possibility of getting a tuning for the new regulations, “said the agency.
The professionals present welcomed this initiative, long awaited. Tarik Slama, chairman of the energy efficiency committee within the Moroccan Association of Cold Professionals (ASMF), stressed that “the actors in the sector welcome this regulation with enthusiasm. ASMF participates in the national effort for green and inclusive transition ”.
Congratulations to the institutional partners for this initiative, he also highlighted the concrete advantages of these standards for both consumers and the environment. “This regulation will encourage the adoption of innovative technologies, such as” Inverter “technology air conditioners. These devices offer better thermal and acoustic comfort, sheltering brutal variations while reducing household energy bill, “he said.
He also highlighted the reduction in maintenance costs thanks to the increased reliability of equipment in accordance with meps. “The breakdowns will be less frequent, and users will gain in terms of costs and comfort,” he added.
The workshop was also an opportunity to tackle the challenges linked to the implementation of these new requirements. Professionals have expressed their concerns about adapting existing stocks and potential costs for importers.
However, the AMEE reassured the participants by specifying that Moroccan regulations are inspired by European standards, already applied by most foreign manufacturers. “Importers will therefore have no major difficulties in complying,” said the Amee.
Slama insisted on the importance of technical support for professionals, especially in wetlands or subject to electrical instabilities. “The change must be well managed. We are ready to support our members for a successful transition, “he concluded.
