The Nice Book Festival is also a literary awards ceremony
The Nice Book Festival is an opportunity to meet its favorite authors and authors, but it is also an opportunity for these writers to be rewarded. This year again, the festival highlights emerging and confirmed talents through several distinctions, highlighting contemporary creations, while encouraging new feathers.
The Nice Baie des Anges Prix, the best known, rewards a French novel published in the twelve months preceding the festival. This year, they were eight in the running to win the title awarded by a jury made up of writers and readers.
Among them, the Toulonnaise Maylis de Kerangal and her book Surla day and the Franco-Canadian fell in love with Nice Benoit d’Halluin with A cry in the ocean. Finally, the jury, chaired by Franz-Olivier Giesbert, decided and it was the French naturalized Russian writer Andreï Makine who wins the prize, with his book Prisoner of a scarlet dream. He will receive his award during the festival opening ceremony on Friday May 30.
Since 2022, young students from Nice have had the opportunity to award a price. This year, 280 students aged 9 to 11 read four works selected by the independent bookstores of the city of Nice and chose the book of Florence Hinckel, Chun, the Panda Baby-Sitter, 33 rue des Tilleuls.
No need to be a professional author to receive a prize
The small and large novice feathers also have the possibility of receiving a prize, thanks to the youth competitions of the news and the competition of the news or the senior story. For the youth competition, 200 students from primary school in high school lent themselves to the game of writing on the theme “Les Galets disappeared”.
The jury, chaired by Didier Van Cauwelart, retained fifteen texts. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday May 31, from 10 a.m. at the Authors forum.
New from last year, perpetuated for this new edition, the competition of the news or the senior story is offered by Olympia Alberti, president of the jury.
