A year after the publication of the first volume dedicated to the Second World War, the French memory, under the pen of Huguette Rousseau and Mattieu Manceau, helped in their research by Michel Perault and Jean-Pierre Bironneau, publishes a second volume of 107 pages, under the title: Airvaudais Val du Thouet, over the municipalities. The authors looked at the history of each of the 15 municipalities in the territory. If the first copy dealt with the experiences of the inhabitants during the conflict, this new work addresses the history of resistance, collaboration and post-war purification, the exodus of refugees, the history of Borcq and hayed camps.
The dark side of the occupation
“This book is different from the first volume published in 2023, it takes shape through local events, over the testimonies. Each village has known its history and previously unknown events have surfaced. The book wants to break some received ideas on resistance and collaboration. Not everyone was resistant or collaborator, each village has its history. The book did not have the less glorious events, by approaching collaboration and purification. Everything is argued, detailed and illustrated, from testimonies and archives, in particular the gendarmerie and the court of justice. The unknown history of the resistance fighters of Boussais is highlighted, just like that of the Tziganas arrested and imprisoned in Souloves, before leaving for the camps, and the reception of refugees ”, present the authors. The book ends with a beautiful note of optimism and happiness found with the victory of the Allies over the occupier, lived in our villages on May 8, 1945.
The book will be presented and sold on May 8, 2025 at 4:30 p.m., when commemorating in the Salle de Souluèvres or by reservation.
