Gwennaëlle Cariou left higher education for “The fields, the wind turbines, the cows”, But especially for the bookstore. So far teacher in art history and history of English-speaking countries, but also a lecturer guide, she opens a general bookstore in the city center of Bernay, in Eure. Called “Les Books du Cosnier”, named after the small river – only 13 kilometers! – which crosses the town, it will offer at the end of April an assortment of 6,000 references adapted to local customers. “It is a rural territory with people in economic difficulties but also many second homes”underlines the bookseller, trained at Book Conseil.
Bernay’s third bookstore
Out of 60 m2 From her renovated premises, she will offer a variegation of prices and themes, with a wide youth selection, books in English for British customers and in large print for the elderly, or even a large imaginary department, advised by her husband, like of the genre. Another striking point: the creation of a space dedicated to nature which is played out of traditional categories, mixing gardening books, hiking guides, essays on rurality, novels, literature of large spaces, documentary comics … Enough to please hunters as well as convinced ecolos. With the town hall of the Town Hall and the ASTREA bookstore, opened in May 2024, the Cosnier’s books is the third bookstore in this city with less than 10,000 inhabitants.
