Getting an identity card, declaring a birth or changing your name will now cost Liège much more. The city has indeed decided to significantly increase the price of many administrative procedures, invoking the need to meet the requirements of the Walloon Region within the framework of the Oxygen Plan.
The new pricing grids were presented last Monday in the municipal council, not without embarrassment of the majority PS-MR-engagement. It must be said that some increases are surprising. For an adult identity card, the rate goes from 25.2 to 39.7 euros, with a municipal fee which jumped from 5.5 to 20 euros. On the children’s side, the increase is even more marked: from 10.1 to 27.9 euros. The costs linked to a marriage or a cohabitation (legal or its cessation) almost double, climbing up to 59.3 euros.
But it is especially the change of surname which is controversial: from 5.5 euros, we suddenly drop to 250 euros. For a change of first name, the price goes from 190 to almost 593 euros. A sum that several elected oppositions consider adherently, especially for people in distress.
Another novelty: several so far free procedures are paid. This is the case with the declaration of loss of passport (35.58 euros), prenatal recognition (20 euros), or the simple certificate of presence during a marriage or a death (10 euros). “Now you have to pay to declare a birth. It is not really a nice welcome gift, ”reacted the green advisor Caroline Saal.
Faced with criticism, the majority recalls that it is required to comply with the prescriptions of the Walloon Region. According to the alderman of finance, Carine Clethe, the Oxygen Convention requires an adequacy between the real cost of the service and the amount invoiced. “Maintaining prices of 2 to 7 euros was therefore no longer tenable in view of our obligations towards the region. We have nevertheless chosen not to apply the maximum prices, ”she said. The price of an identity card, for example, could have been 15 euros higher.
