Paris Basketball went to win 73-81 on the Real Madrid prosecution during the Euroligue play-in! He will therefore see the quarterfinals, where he will face Fenerbahce, for his very first participation!
What a beautiful evening for Parisian sport! At the very moment when Paris St-Germain qualified for the semi-finals of the football champions League, Paris Basketball qualified for the quarter-finals of the Euroligue, for the very first participation of its history in the biggest continental competition! Eighth of the regular season, Paris was to play a play-in on the Real Madrid prosecution, Ogre European if there is one, and the winner was guaranteed to play in quarters against Fenerbahce, while the loser had to play another match, against Bayern Munich (winner 97-93 after prolongation of the Red Star of Belgrade) to try to snatch the last place in play-offs. And the winner is called Paris, who went to win 73-81 with the Merengues! After a start to the match where the two teams went blow for blow, Real, who won in the two regular season games, dug a little gap by leading 13-8 in the 5th minute. He was still leading 18-16 to the 7th, but then was never ahead of it again! Paris signed a 7-0 which allowed him to take some air, and the score was finally 22-27 after the first quarter. And the second was perfectly mastered by Parisians. The Madrilenians certainly returned to 31-33 (15th) then 33-35, but Nadir Hifi planted two shots at 3 points which gave a mattress in advance in Paris (33-41), then it was Tyson Ward and TJ Shorts that allowed the players of Thiago Splitter to return to the locker room with ten points ahead (36-46, MT).
An unbreathable last quarter
Upon resumption, the French club has further dug the gap, up to +13 (41-54), then Real returned to -6 (49-55), before counting again thirteen points behind (49-62), but only four at the end of the quarter (58-62), the fault of a 9-0 cashed in the last three minutes. Everything remained to be done in the last quarter, which turned out to be irrespirable for long minutes. Real returned to -1 on several occasions, up to 67-68 to 4’31 from the end. And while we could have feared that the Spanish would completely overthrow the match, Paris Basketball signed a huge end of the match! Mikael janunen scored at three points (67-71), then it was Nadir Hifi’s turn (68-74), then janunen again one minute from the end (71-79). And TJ Shorts sealed the Parisian victory by scoring his 22nd and 23rd points, on Free throws. Nadir Hifi, elected the best hope of the Euroligue a little earlier in the day, added 15 points. Paris ends up with 35.5% success at 3 points, while the Madrilenians of Facundo Campazzo were satisfied by 26%. The Betclic Elite will therefore have two representatives in the quarterfinals next week: Paris against Fenerbahce, 2nd in the regular season, and Monaco (4th) against FC Barcelona (5). An exciting end of the season is coming!
