“We are in a building in the 2000s”, Introduced Joanne Riachi. The Lebanese-American architect, founder of the Jori workshop, was commissioned to renovate a small space of 66 square meters, in Montreuil, for a young couple. “” The entrance to the impressive building sets the tone. We wanted to find the reading of the plan, very free. »» This open plan offers two threading balconies on each side of the apartment, perched on the top floor of the building. From the original traffic, Joanne Riachi has decomposed the spaces injected there as much clarity as possible. To do this, it used modules to replace the partitions and a wall canopy in flute glass to let the light cross the parts. The result? A post-modern interior, in symbiosis with its building, but also very refined. Visit.

Opening, brightness and ecological sobriety
“We went from seven to three doors”note the architect to illustrate the important work of decompartmentalization carried out through these 66 square meters (see plans at the end of the article). Inspired by the (rare) double spinning balcony opening onto the sky of Montreuil, it has opened access to these exteriors from each room in the apartment, giving them optimal light at the same time. “For example, the natural light added in the bathroom allows both to provide visual comfort, but also to reduce heating consumption thanks to the sun. »» Also, a canopy was added between the living room and one of the bedrooms, in order to obtain a completely crossing space.

In this aim of reducing the environmental impact of housing, Joanne Riachi has thought of the whole isolation in an ecological way. “We tried to adopt a virtuous approach, using recycled tires for insulation – a technology called Dina Shock”. Steel furniture lights and furniture legs also come from reuse. Also, the wall canopy between the bedroom and the living room was designed “With the finest framework”as well as the libraries of the designed room “With the least possible material, including steel amounts that welcome the canopy”. The architect, whose ecology carries most projects, does not fail to recall the etymology of “jori”, the name of his studio which, “According to the ancient Greek γεώργιος, evokes a relation to the earth, to anchoring, to what is part of the duration”. “Our approach aims to reconcile form, use and climate”, she completes.
A small space designed to receive
Despite the relatively small surface, the owners wanted to be able to receive as they see fit, cook and cocktails for their guests. “The idea was to be able to read both, welcome, and at the same time, cooking, specifies the architect. So we thought of self -supporting furniture by cherry to structure the kitchen without isolate it from the living room. The meter has a great faculty of implementation and work of detail ”.
