Figure of contemporary art in Spain, Miguel Angel enclosed Villamana, who died on April 29, 2025 in Barbastro (Huesca province) had family ties in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne). He had exhibited in 1998 in my city of Ingres.
The news has crossed the Pyrenees to land in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne) among lovers of contemporary painting, but especially in the Villamana family well known in the city of Ingres. Luis, Carmen, Marie-Ange and their relatives learned with sadness the death, this April 29, 2025 in Barbastro (Huesca province), their cousin Germain Miguel Angel Encuent Villamana. This eminent abstract painter was also known in Spain as a committed political activist.
Miguel Angel enclosed Villamana was an Aragonese: he was born in 1951 in Aliaga, in the province of Teruel. His artistic career, which extends over more than five decades, positions him as a figurehead on the contemporary Spanish scene.
In September 1998, he had the great pleasure of exhibiting several of his paintings at the Montauban municipal theater. The opening had given rise to a cocktail to the old college in the presence of many guests. The municipality of Montauban, then led by the socialist Roland Garrigues, had also acquired two canvases from the artist who enriched the cultural heritage of the city.
