In pictures – From Saturday May 3 and until May 18, the Banksy Modest Collection is investing the Cité Bleue in Bordeaux.
In June 2007, François Berardino, known as “Béru”, meeting a street artist in London. The two men sympathize and Béru decides to follow him in his workshop. He discovers the artist’s street art work who ends up giving him two drawings. He will not realize until a few weeks later, who he met: Banksy. Taken passion, he therefore decided to create a collection around his works. Stencils, t-shirts, record pockets … She obviously attests to the ideals of the street artist whose works are very committed, political and humorous.
Among the most striking in the modern garage of the blue city in Bordeaux, a staging that mixes rubble, objects and stencils to denounce the war in Ukraine. At the center of the exhibition, we also discover a Uber Eats delivery person represented on a card with the inscription “This is not a job.” (See slideshow).
A few weeks ago, the exhibition hosted more than 30,000 visitors to Échirolles, near Grenoble.
The ball at the balloon sold for 21.8 million euros
The artist from Bristol, always maintains the mystery about his identity, and always likes to provoke and give to think. He notably became known by a series of graffiti appearing on buildings. In 2005, he had for example made The flower launcher On a wall of Jerusalem, representing a masked protester about to launch a bouquet of flowers. The artist also uses his bomb of graffiti artist to demonstrate for example his opposition to Brexit, his support for migrants, or to alert climate urgency and various environmental subjects.
Last buzz dated: in 2021. The work The ball at the balloonwas shredded in the middle of sales room, just after being sold at a record price. It would seem that the artist himself organized this self-destruction, creating an unprecedented event in the world of art. It had finally been sold nearly 18.6 million pounds (21.8 million euros), a new record for the British artist.
