The Galerie Artspace X de Seoul presents an exhibition entitled Contemporary French photographs – Human, Nature and City Organized by the Galerie Parallax from Aix en Provence. She is accompanied by this text:
“The original has the real power. Even when works are articulated around the same theme and adopt similar approaches, the fundamental difference between those from the original and those which result from it is abyssal. The original, by arousing great expectations, must display an undeniable singularity compared to the works that succeed him. In this perspective, the exhibition “Regards on French contemporary photography” is, as a platform highlighting the excellence of the current French photographic scene.
Bringing together 20 artists who shed light on the currents of French contemporary photography, the exhibition offers forty three works divided into three major themes: human, nature and city. In most of the works presented, the reinterpretation of traditional craft techniques is highlighted, rather than the direct use of advanced technologies.
The exhibition thus brings together a variety of photographic processes-ranging from pre-industrial processes, drawing on albumin paper, platinum-platinum, ferrotype, innovative processes developed by the artists themselves, such as the Anthony Morel ecosotype or the altotype of Alfons Alt-conferring a resolutely original character in relation to classical photographic exhibitions.
Certain works are the subject of physical interventions on the image – the scratching of gelatin or adding materials such as wax and pigments – thus awakening curiosity both artistic and technical, and illustrating the diversity of processes applied in contemporary photography.
