The Senegalese Prime Minister announced, during the last Council of Ministers, the upcoming holding of two interministerial meetings devoted to examining the financial difficulties encountered by the airline Air Senegal SA and the international airport Blaise-Diagne (AIBD SA). These meetings are scheduled for the second half of February 2025.
An urgent need for restructuring
During this weekly government meeting, the head of government insisted on the urgent need to implement a global restructuring for these two strategic entities.
According to the official press release from the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister highlighted the financial challenges facing Air Senegal and theAIBDemphasizing the importance of a concerted action plan for their recovery.
Strengthened monitoring of the parapublic sector
Furthermore, the Council of Ministers adopted a draft decree aimed at organizing and supervising the work of the parapublic sector monitoring committeeresponsible for supervising public and parapublic companies.
This reform is seen as a key step to improve governance and ensure better performance of parapublic companies, of which Air Senegal and the AIBD are part.
Next steps
The two meetings scheduled for February 2025 should make it possible to develop concrete and sustainable solutions to address the financial and operational challenges facing these institutions. The Senegalese government seems determined to preserve the viability of these infrastructures, considered essential pillars for the development of air transport and tourism in the country.
