Mohamed Sabbari meets with a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies

The first vice-president of the House of Representatives, Mohamed Sabbari, met on Tuesday in Rabat with a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, currently on a working visit to the Kingdom.

This meeting, which took place in the presence of the Italian ambassador in Rabat, Armando Barocco, was “an opportunity to exchange ideas and points of view on a number of subjects of common interest, such as cultural and educational cooperation and migration,” said a press release from the House of Representatives, adding that both parties praised the role of the Moroccan community in Italy, its integration and its remarkable contribution to the development efforts of Italian society.

During this meeting, Mr. Sabbari affirmed that Morocco and Italy maintain excellent relations which are part of the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI aimed at strengthening and diversifying partnerships with the countries of the European Union, noting that the two countries are celebrating two centuries of diplomatic relations this year.

Morocco is characterized by its political, economic and social stability, its openness to international trade and major investment opportunities, he said, stressing that the Kingdom seeks to develop and diversify its commercial and economic relations with the ‘Italy.

In this context, he called for the creation of Morocco-Italy partnerships to support projects and programs in the Kingdom and in the southern provinces in particular, while highlighting the overall renaissance and development observed in these regions in various fields.

At the parliamentary level, he called for strengthening cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries through the intensification of visits, the exchange of expertise and experiences and the activation of the parliamentary friendship group in both rooms.

For his part, Paolo Formentini, vice-president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, recalled the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Italy and Morocco in various areas, emphasizing the common interest in working together to overcome the challenges facing both countries.

In their interventions, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies called for strengthening the role of parliamentary diplomacy to face strategic challenges and consolidate cooperation in the field of professional training, education and renewable and clean energies, emphasizing that Italy considers Morocco as a strategic partner in the Mediterranean region and Africa.
