barring a cyclone, the rainy season will remain in deficit in

While the rainy season should only really start in February, Réunion risks remaining with a precipitation deficit, Météo predicts. Unless there is a cyclone…

The weather is desperately dry in , and it will continue for a long time. At least until the end of January, estimates Marie-Dominique Leroux, head of the study and climatology division at Météo France.

“The forecast for the coming weeks between now and the end of January is a continuation of this rather dry signal for a classic rainy season”notes the climatologist interviewed by Réunion la 1ère.

“As of January 20, we have only harvested 10% of the rain collected in the month of January and we do not expect to harvest much in the next ten days, unless a cyclone passes, in which case that will change gives it” specifies Marie-Dominique Roux.

“But otherwise, a priori, the high pressures linked to the Mascarene anticyclone should continue, and, therefore, we will only have rare localized showers and not this classic diurnal seasonal evolution which allows the resource to be abundantly recharged “ we explain to Météo France. Not a very good omen, therefore, while Reunion has not experienced any significant rain since Belal… a year ago.

However, the rainy season should not be long in coming.
“We hope, in February, that the rainy season will start. We have a small loss of predictability so we will have to continue to keep ourselves informed to see exactly when it will start, but, normally, at From February we should start again with more seasonal weather.”indicates the climatologist.

But seasonal forecasts do not give hope for the water resource situation to catch up. “For February, March and April, we remain on a normal to deficit signal. In the end, if we do not have a cyclone that hits us, we will remain in deficit”warns Météo France.
