Vigilance rain floods Saturday 18 at 10 p.m. until Sunday 19 January, end of day – Weather vigilance – Natural risks – Risk prevention – Ecological transition, environment and risk prevention – State actions

Météo has issued an level weather alert for the “Rain floods” parameter from Saturday January 18, 10 p.m. until Sunday January 19, end of day.

The Haute-Corse department is placed on orange rain-flood alert with the event beginning Saturday at 10 p.m. The rain-storm degradation will affect the south of the island late Saturday afternoon before extending to a large eastern half of the island during the night from Saturday to Sunday and Sunday during the day.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, these sometimes stormy rains extend to the east of Haute-Corse and strengthen. They continue continuously, quite strongly on the east of the island during the day on Sunday.

On the eastern slopes, the Fiumorbo and the Renoso massif, the expected accumulations reach 150 to 220 mm.

The quantities of snow expected above 1500m are significant.

On the eastern coast and coastal plains, expected accumulations are 40 to 60 mm locally up to 80 mm.

These rains move away at the end of the day on Sunday.

The Haute-Corse prefecture calls on the population to be extremely vigilant and reiterates the precautionary instructions:

  • Do not enter, on foot or by car, on a submerged path,
  • Respect the diversions put in place,
  • Do not shelter under the trees,
  • Respect the instructions given by the security services,
  • Avoid walks in the forest and outings in the mountains,
  • In flood-prone areas, keep furniture out of water and monitor rising water levels
  • Do not walk along the banks of rivers located downstream of dams,
  • Listen to the radio station Ici RCFM and France3 Corse Via Stella
