the urban area of Pays de Savoie on orange alert

While the cold and anticyclonic conditions are well established in the Pays de Savoie, this Thursday, January 16, Atmo Auvergne-Rhône Alpes (the air quality observatory in our region) placed the urban area of the Pays de Savoie on yellow alert for an episode of combustion-type air pollution (fine particles PM10 and nitrogen dioxide NO). “Anticyclonic conditions persist and favor the accumulation of particles,” Atmo said on its website, noting that there is “little change to be expected. Particle pollution levels will remain very high and are expected to remain so until early next week.

As of Friday January 17, Atmo places this area on orange alert. Consequently, in order to reduce pollutant emissions, the prefect of Savoie has taken several measures which will take effect on January 17 at midnight and 5 a.m. (for transport): among others the temporary lowering of the speed of 20 km/ h on all roads in the department where the authorized speed limit is normally greater than or equal to 90 km/h, the ban on the use of wood and its derivatives as individual supplementary or recreational heating and recommends to public to limit intense physical activities.
