While the motion of censure of La France insoumise will be voted on Thursday January 16 in the National Assembly, François Bayrou and his government responded favorably to three requests made by the socialists, reports BFMTV. In hopes they don’t censor it.
Negotiations which lead to an outcome favorable to the Socialist Party? As reported by BFMTV, François Bayrou assured, in a letter addressed to Olivier Faure’s party, that he gave his approval to three specific requests. The Prime Minister confirmed the abandonment of the transition from one to three days of waiting time in the event of sick leave for civil servants but also that the proposed tax on high incomes will be maintained in the 2025 budget. Finally, François Bayrou assures PS that “the government will confirm (…) the abandonment of the elimination of 4,000 teaching positions“.
These concessions come as the motion of censure tabled by La France insoumise (LFI) is voted on in the hemicycle on Friday January 16. According to information from FigaroFrançois Bayrou won his case since the socialist deputies would have taken the decision not to censor the Prime Minister. “We maintained doubt about our position until the end to try to obtain more from Matignon“, declared a socialist elected official to our colleagues.
Parliament “will have the last word” on pension reform
-In his letter addressed to the PS, François Bayrou also affirmed that even “without global agreement“between the social partners on pension reform,”Parliament will in any case have the last word.”. The Prime Minister is committed to ensuring that deputies and senators can vote on new arrangements for pension reform. By refusing to vote on the motion of censure tabled by their allies in the New Popular Front (NFP), the socialists are exposing themselves to a division of the alliances of the left-wing parties. Jean-Luc Mélenchon having notably warned that each deputy who does not vote for the motion of censure would be opposed by an Insoumis candidate in his constituency in the next legislative elections.
