increase in the price of train tickets, exasperated users

Are you planning a Parisian getaway before the end of the month? For a departure on the last weekend of January, here is what it will cost you with a outward journey on Saturday 25 and a return on Sunday 26, in second class. By TGV: €46.40 one way (at 10:39 a.m. to Saint-Pierre-des-Corps) and €51 return (6:31 p.m. from Montparnasse station).

You are not in a hurry and prefer to opt for the TER with an arrival at Austerlitz station? One way (at 9:28 a.m.) costs €22, the return (at 6:11 p.m.) costs €25.

A “crazy” increase of 40% in ten years

Fares higher than in 2024. Since January 8, the SNCF has increased the prices of its train tickets. For the TGV Inouï and Ouigo, the increase is 1.5%. “This is an increase in prices at the level of inflation, justifies the SNCF, it allows investments to be financed. »

This increase is even greater for Intercity trains: +1.9%.

A barrier for travelers? “In 2025, one in two leisure tickets should be purchased for less than €47, provides direction. Across all classes, three out of four high-speed customers will continue to benefit from a reduced price (Ouigo, advantage card or promotional offers) », predicts the SNCF.

Plus 10% for passes

Other changes are coming in 2025. From January 29, the weekly and monthly high-speed line packages are renamed the TGV Inouï Weekly and Monthly Pass. “Reservations of €1.50 per journey are removed and included in the price of the pass. » Two reservations per day will now be available, “this will make it easier to book at the last minute on certain full journeys for all customers.”

The amounts of these monthly and weekly passes will increase by 10% in first and second class. This concerns nearly 2,000 customers throughout every month.

Customers with a Max active and Max active + subscription (much more numerous, there are 20,000 in France) will see their subscription increase by 4% on average from 1is avril 2025. “Regardless of the anniversary date of the subscription. » They too are affected by the two daily reservations.

In Indre-et-, around 4,000 users of the - line are affected by these increases. An increase that does not pass muster for David Charretier, president of the TGV Tours-Paris Users Association. “In January 2023, the subscription was increased by 5%, then in February 2024, between 5% and 10%. » Le Tourangeau made his calculations: “Over the last ten years, subscriptions have increased by 40%. An active Max plus subscriber will pay €80 more per month (between 2022 and 2025), It’s crazy! »

Drop in the price of electricity

Above all, David Charretier wonders: “Why is the drop in electricity prices not being passed on? According to the SNCF, electricity represents 25% to 30% of the ticket price. »

The subscriber has the feeling of paying more without any compensation. “The services are not better. Before, you could cancel your trip at any time, it's more restrictive today. »

Furthermore, strikes and threats of strike penalize employees working in the capital. “It's the same thing for us, we have to organize ourselves in advance and take a day off. » Living in Tours would even have become an obstacle for certain recruiters. “When choosing between two candidates, managers prefer to hire the one who lives in Paris,” assures David Charretier. More and more people from Tours working in Paris are asking questions. “Some people plan to take a small studio and only come back to Tours on weekends. »
