Mold was detected on around ten paintings exhibited at the Brest Museum of Fine Arts, in Finistère, “ici Breizh Izel” learned from Brest Métropole on Wednesday January 15. The building inaugurated in 1968 was closed for maintenance and upkeep. It will therefore not reopen on February 1 as initially planned.
According to the metropolis press release, a “fungal infestation” was observed in part of the Museum of Fine Arts in Brest. The community, in conjunction with the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Drac) of Brittany, contacted “different specialists in the restoration of works of art in order to carry out a broad consultation in expertise”. This diagnosis will allow the metropolis and the museum to take “appropriate measures”specifies “here is Breizh Izel”.
The findings and analyzes are expected in the coming weeks, and a progress report will be presented in March.
