Modef defends an alternative system

It is a recent player in the agricultural world in the Hautes-Alpes. The Movement for the Defense of Family Farmers (Modef) has new ambitions during the elections of representatives who will sit in the Chamber of Agriculture of Hautes-Alpes, and whose vote will take place between January 15 and 31, 2025. Close to the Communist Party, this union, very critical of the current governance of the Chambers of Agriculture, defends an alternative agricultural model not subject to competition.

“Agriculture should not be considered an industrial good”

In a recent press release, local representatives of Modef plead for an agricultural model that “protects producers, consumers and the environment”. The union, which notably organized a solidarity market in front of the Beauregard school in in October 2023, wants to fight for remunerative prices with margin control. And to clarify: “Agriculture must not be considered as an industrial good and, as such, must not be integrated into the world organization of markets, which would avoid financial speculation on food products.

Modef also denounces the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). “Let's stop allocating aid per hectare but put in place aid per capped work unit,” writes the union. Another theme is also highlighted such as the updating of agricultural disaster funds on “the principle of pooling”, in opposition to the insurance system which prevails to date.
