Nicole Kidman admitted she doesn’t take enough credit for her work.

Despite a long Hollywood career and a multitude of awards, the star remains its harshest critic.

In an interview with “W Magazine,” Nicole Kidman was quick to defend Babygirl director Halina Reijn rather than accept praise for her performance in the new erotic thriller.

“Halina is incredibly rigorous in terms of performance and commitment. She wrote it, she directed it and she could play every role,” Nicole Kidman responded when her performance was described as courageous.

Her response prompted the interviewer to claim that Nicole Kidman didn’t give herself enough credit

“I never give myself credit. I would like to give her (Halina Reijn) all the credit,” insisted the star. “But I learned early on that it wasn’t about me, it was about a vision. How can you help bring these stories to the screen? It’s not about me, Nicole. It’s a much broader look at human beings and how we exist in the world.”

During the interview, Nicole Kidman also spoke about the loss of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, last year. The 57-year-old actress shared a close bond with her and was devastated by her death in September at the age of 84. When asked which of her films was her late mother’s favorite, Nicole Kidman revealed that she was sad that Janelle didn’t get to see Babygirl.

“She loved Rabbit Hole. She loved Paperboy. She’s never seen Babygirl. She loved The Hours. But she was harsh in her criticism. So I’m used to it, which is a good thing,” said Nicole Kidman. A way of explaining why she is not very tender with herself.
