French President Emmanuel Macron accused, Monday, during the conference of ambassadors, certain “African leaders” of having forgotten to say “thank you” to for its commitment to the fight against terrorism in the Sahel.

“I say this for all the African leaders who did not have the courage, vis-à-vis their public opinion, to carry it, none of them would be with a sovereign country today if the army French army was not deployed in this region and I have a heartfelt thought for our soldiers who, sometimes gave their lives, and for years fought,” he said.

And to continue: “We left because there were coups, because we were there at the request of sovereign States who had asked France to come. From the moment there were coups d’état, when people said ‘our priority is no longer the fight against terrorism, it’s this or that’, France no longer had its place, because we are not the auxiliaries of putschists, so we left.”

Emmanuel Macron assures that France “has chosen to move to Africa” by looking at its “past relationship” in “memorial, cultural” matters.

“We factualize it, we assume it, we tell ourselves the truth, but we give in nothing to disinformation and interference,” continued the French president.

After the question of the relationship between France and Africa, Emmanuel Macron addressed the issue of immigration, which constitutes one of the points of tension with many countries.

To this end, he indicates that the French “no longer understand” that “dangerous” individuals are kept on their soil and that they want “to be able to expel them” but that they “are not taken back by certain countries from which (the France) should issue visas without requirements.”

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, he called on kyiv “to hold realistic discussions on territorial issues” considering that only they are capable of carrying them out successfully.

Emmanuel Macron also attacked Elon Musk regarding the political positioning he broadcasts on his social networks.

“Ten years ago, what if we had been told that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new reactionary international movement and intervene directly in elections, including in Germany? Who would have imagined it? », he asked in front of the ambassadors he welcomed at the Elysée.

Finally, while Donald Trump was re-elected as head of the American presidency, the tenant of the Elysée assured that “President Trump has a solid ally in France, an ally whom he does not disesteem, who has wishes clear, who believes in Europe”.

As a reminder, Emmanuel Macron receives the ambassadors stationed in every year to present to them the priority areas of his foreign policy.
