A few more days to (re)discover the Aveyron gallery of the photographer to the stars

the essential
There are only a few days left to visit the Jean-Marie Périer Gallery before its winter closure. An opportunity not to be missed.

Jean-Marie Périer, born in 1940, left his mark on the world of photography. Nicknamed “THE photographer to the stars”, he immortalized the emblematic figures of the 1960s. From the Salut les Comies band to the Rolling Stones, including Karl Lagerfeld and Claudia Schiffer, everyone passed in front of his lens.

At this time and for four years, he also shared the life of the singer Françoise Hardy, who died on June 11, 2024 at the age of 80. She was then at the beginning of her career. During an interview with RTL in 2022, he recalled their first meeting, moved. “She lived with her mother and sister in a small apartment of 45 square meters […] The door opens and it's her mother who answers. And behind it, I see an apparition.” In 1967, they separated. But they never cut contact.

He owes his installation in Aveyron to Jacques Dutronc

Living in Villeneuve for many years, Jean-Marie Périer has made this region his refuge. In an interview given to our colleagues at Center Presse Aveyron in 2020, he declared, “the only memory I have of Aveyron, and it's one of the reasons why I came to settle here, is is a tour with Jacques Dutronc in the sixties He was on stage and I accompanied him from date to date and already at the time, we said to ourselves: “It's really good here, we'll have to. come back!” And when a few years later I left , I came here, also to remember those moments.” This connection to West Aveyron pushed him to open a gallery in a 14th century medieval building.

The Jean-Marie Périer gallery now brings together nearly 200 iconic photos, testifying to his talent and his unique eye. And during the 2024 season, it recorded 6,026 entries (+7% as of September 30 compared to 2023), confirming its gradual establishment as a major attraction in West Aveyron.

So why not take advantage of the new year to discover or rediscover it? And it's still accessible until January 5, 2025, every day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. An ideal opportunity to delve into the journey of a photographer who knew how to capture the essence of an era… now long gone.

In 2024, one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in

On Saturday September 21, 2024, Villeneuve entered the “Most Beautiful Villages of France” label, alongside ten Aveyron municipalities, to the delight of the village's residents and merchants.

“Villeneuve is regaining its arms of nobility. We want to continue this dynamic and remain a living village. Certainly the stones are pretty, but they must not collect dust. We have no intention of “to be a museum village”, confided its mayor, Jean-Pierre Masbou, ten days after the announcement of the good news. While emphasizing the concrete contribution that this represents for the Jean-Marie Périer gallery which should see its attendance increase upon its reopening.
