The numbers start off badly for the two rappers…
Yet everything started so well! L’announcement of this album had the effect of a bomb in the world of rap. Two of the biggest names in history, Snoop Dogg et Dr. Drehave decided to join forces to propose an ambitious project: the album “Missionary”. Expectations were colossal, especially since the two legends had pulled out all the stops to ensure a communication out of the ordinary.
To promote the project, a short film impressive was published on the YouTube channel of Snoop Doggcaptivating fans with a polished aesthetic and an atmosphere worthy of their fame. And as if that wasn't enough, Eminem came to lend a hand with a promotional video full ofhumouronce again demonstrating the alchemy and friendship between these rap icons.
Vers un flop ?
But then, what happened? While we expected a tidal wave in the charts, the project disappointed on a commercial level. In the first week, “Missionary” only recorded 37,000 sales. Certainly, this figure could be impressive in France, but in UNITED STATESwhere sales standards are much higher, it is far from expectations. For comparison, the album “GNX” of Kendrick Lamar had passed at 319,000 copies in one week, a figure which further highlights the gap. Despite this lackluster start, it would be unfair to describe the album as a real failure.
The legendary duo deserves this project to be more listen and hopefully the numbers could improve in the coming weeks through word of mouth and fan support. With names as iconic as Snoop Dogg et Dr. Dre, “Missionary” could still surprise and be long-lasting.
If this album had everything to become a classichis start shows that even legends can stumble. It remains to be seen if Snoop Dogg et Dr. Dre will manage to reverse the trend and give “Missionary” the success he deserves.
