It is a vessel of glass, steel and stone located in the heart of the City of Lights. The Grand Palais is a monument that leaves no one indifferent. After three years of closure, the whole world rediscovered it this summer, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This glass jewel was also the scene of the fencing events during the Olympic fortnight .
However, there is indeed a hidden side of this attractive monument. In its numerous galleries, workers and craftsmen are still busy. Up to 12,000 craftsmen worked on the renovation of the Grand Palais. Among them, Caroline Chudacek and Sophie Coutin. The two mosaicists patiently glue the damaged stones back together. Since its creation, the monument has experienced a thousand lives. Inaugurated during the Universal Exhibition of 1900, it took three years and three architects to build it, which gives it such a particular style.
