Contemporary, Andalusian… this little Parisian cocoon multiplies the contrasts near the Saint-Martin canal

This apartment of around fifty square meters is at 5e floor: unobstructed view guaranteed and… let there be light! “Light is the key word of this small space, recognizes interior designer Lauranne Élise Schmitt. But we found it partitioned into multiple small spaces. It was necessary to review the plan and optimize traffic. » Today organized between a large living room of 32 m2 and a night area of 20 m2everything is maximized by carved dressing rooms which act as an airlock to lead to the toilets or the bedroom and the bathroom. “In the end, all functions have their place and no square centimeter is wasted. » From the entrance, you access a dressing room and toilets, to the left of the kitchen. Past the kitchen, you access the bedroom, located to its right, in a beautiful symmetry in which we recognize the touch of Lauranne Élise Schmitt. Indeed, with a pocket door open to the bedroom, the apartment capitalizes on the row of three sloping windows in a bright perspective that is always welcome. Facing the kitchen, “rather compressed but lacking nothing”, a custom-designed XXL thin table creates a visual separation between the kitchen and living room without taking up space. It can be used as a console, island, office or dining table and can accommodate up to six guests.

The lounge area with its three niches whose brushed stainless steel bottom reflects the light. In front of two armchairs by Adriano Piazzesi from 1970 (Galerie Paradis), three small coffee tables in enameled stoneware. Above and in the niches, vases and aluminum dishes Vessels of Imperfection by Anna Zimmermann and glass vases Momentum 14, 16, 17, et 18 by Rinke Joosten (the Galerie Scène Ouverte ensemble). On the wall, the work Melting Summer by Jade Marra (Amélie, Maison d’). Color painted walls and ceilings Limestone (Clay).

Warmth and sophistication

The owner having grown up in Andalusia, the south is the main inspiration for the ocher, caramel and earth tones that Lauranne Elise Schmitt likes to work with. Responding to the large custom-made table and the red Alicante marble splashback, the kitchen, the center of gravity of the apartment, is adorned with a red earth paint which continues in the two dressing rooms which frame it and up ‘at the feet of the big table. Dialoguing with this warm, Mediterranean color, the brushed stainless steel base and wall units play on contrast and modernity, not to mention their strong light reflection power. A stainless steel that can be found at the bottom of the three mahogany oak niches on the living room wall, a sort of cozy but contemporary reading corner, lit at night by LEDs which are reflected on the stainless steel backgrounds like the sun during the day. We note the rounding of two niches which introduces the curve into the apartment and breaks the straight lines that the interior designer particularly likes. “We find this curve in the arched door to the bathroom as well as the bathroom mirror, touches that live well with the rest, never too present. »
